One of the original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated how parent company Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he will independently develop this new flavor as part of a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement deepens the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur stated via social media how he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians due to its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

The new product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company in September, following decades of involvement, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
