Defiant Celtic's manager insists he is not worried about being fired but supporters display wrath following defeat.
The Celtic boss insisted he was not afraid of dismissal, claiming, “The team is very near to a turnaround,” despite edging perilously close to the exit with a heavy loss to the Ibrox side.
A Second-Half Meltdown Leads to Old Firm Loss
The home side were ahead their oldest rivals at the break but a collapse after the break let Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was appointed in December, has now been in charge for six setbacks in eight matches.
“The board and I are united with the board,” said the manager.
Pressed on his own future, the 48-year-old responded: “I don’t think about it. I concentrate on discovering solutions to aid my players to be good on details.
Protest Outside Parkhead
The fans voiced their fury – directed at the dugout and directors – in their hundreds at Parkhead. Club directors are reportedly likely to bring back Martin O’Neill, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period previously, if Nancy departs.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. Yet in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am pessimistic. Absolutely not. The message is we are really close, really, really close to change the narrative.”
Focus on the Details
Nancy highlights the fact his team play well for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, if not for poor finishing they might have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain objective.
“The standard we had at certain moments was exceptionally high. That happened. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was not the case. But that’s why, in terms of results, I said it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I feel a change is coming to things turning around. Right now: small things.”
“There were a lot of encouraging signs that we did, once more. But now comes down to sustaining it. My narrative would be different if I didn't believe it. That’s why I am a big believer we’re going to be able to fix this.”
The Rangers Boss Outlook
Rangers manager played down talk of a title charge in spite of what felt like a statement victory. “Step by step, and we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The belief in the group is immense.”
