In the view of the president and his Maga acolytes—a group that includes billionaire Elon Musk, who recently advocated for the dissolution of the EU—all politics is fundamentally a deal. However, whereas the previous argument was about financial fairness, the current assertion is that a decadent Europe is fundamentally unworthy due to its shift toward diversity.
Weakening from Within
In his interview, Trump himself connects these dots in a kind of wish-fulfillment exercise. He concedes that the Kremlin wants a divided Europe. Although certain figures, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have been forceful in their rebuttals, others—like the office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer—have continued with a policy of attempting to appease the White House.
Recently, the UK government declined to criticize Trump's comments about Europe or his latest criticism on the mayor of London.
