A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was approached by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.

Details of the Attack

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the property supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, according to reports.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.

Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.

Key evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to establish their location," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the family was struggling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."

She urged the community to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, saying this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.
