The artist has donated the full amount of his £25k award cash to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the UK's independent live music spots.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his third album the album was named the outstanding release of the past year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues played in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 local spots across Britain.

The money helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and gear that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in big venues helps the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to worthy causes.

Back when Pulp won the award in the year 1996 for their album their work, vocalist the singer announced that the act would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award among multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the local youth club that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year they gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked artist Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had protected a couple of local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

The first in that area and the second in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
