The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series following the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their work this season.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

Toronto claimed the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
