The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
