The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
