The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
