Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential video game developer died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames on a motorway in Los Angeles on Sunday, as reported by.

"This represents a devastating loss, and we stand with his family and friends, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts said.
